Doesn't hurt to have it.
Niall, Dallas Tx. (formely Laois, Ireland). 19 Dec 2008.

I learned more from this little book in a few months than 12 years of 'school Irish'.

Not sure if that was the fault of the Irish school system or my inability to learn it in the school setting. But it does say something for this book. If you've had some Irish (Gaeilge) before and you want to brush up on it or give another stab at learning the language then you'll find this book very hand. If you've never had Irish before in any context then you are going to want to have other learning materials so you can hear how words are pronounced. Otherwise you'll be completely lost.

I would recommend for all parties a good companion for Progress in Irish is the "Buntús Cainte" book & CDs. Its not big on grammar (but Progress will take care of that) but it is big on word, phrases, sentences and giving the meaning but no rules of grammar. Progress is big on Grammar and the rules but no proncunciation. Therefore I think one compliments the other. With both sets of books I think you'll have a very good start at the language and can work up to at least basic sentences and conversations. Good luck!!!

Great for review/revision
Redwolf, California, USA. 3 Nov 2008.

I picked up a copy of this in Ireland because so many people I knew were using or had used it, and what I've found is that it's a wonderful tool for reviewing the basics. It's easy to work through a chapter every evening (or every couple of evenings, if you're a busy person), and helps you brush up on things you may not use frequently enough be confident about (or that you just feel you could use a refresher on). I have the same reservation others here have stated about the lack of pronunciation and an answer key, if it's being used as a textbook for beginners, but as a basic review tool for intermediate and advanced learners, it's first-rate.

The best book
Chris, Ireland. 31 Mar 2008.

The book is a great book which helps you learn, teaches Irish grammar very well. This will help anyone learning Irish and gives work to do if you're feeling up to it. One disapointment is that there is no CD to go with this fanastic product but it still helps. I wish there was.

Excellent text!
